Climate change is the single biggest threat to sustainable development and its widespread, unprecedented impact have the potential to reverse the significant gains already made on reducing global poverty.
At the heart of it is usually the poorest and most vulnerable, especially children, who contributed little to these problems but are disproportionately affected by their negative consequences.
Climate change therefore has a face – it has the face of a child whose home has been destroyed by disasters, it has the face of a mother who cannot find food for her children, and it has the face of a community, fighting for their livelihoods.
Damage to the environment and climate change are already challenging our work and mission around the world, and will continue to do so in the coming years. That’s why they aren’t just environmental problems – they’re also development problems.
